Cauchy Home vs Home Assistant
A home that takes less work.
An honest comparison. A focused ambition.

CauchyHome.ai / October 2026
01 / Two compelling approaches
The difference is the experience you buy.
Cauchy Home
A deliberately narrow beginning
Validated native Matter devices. One Mac mini per home. An installer-led service designed to learn preferences and reduce repeat corrections.

Home Assistant
Breadth, ownership and flexibility
A mature open-source platform with broad integrations, local automation, AI options and flexible hardware. Self-manage it or arrange expert help.
Home Assistant Green is one hardware option.
02 / Side-by-side
Compare outcomes. Keep the status visible.
Cauchy’s proposed advantages are goals to validate—not demonstrated superiority.
| Dimension | Cauchy Home | Home Assistant today |
|---|---|---|
| Device reach | Native Matter only; Thread preferred. Small validated launch catalog planned. Planned | Broad integrations and protocols, including Matter and Thread. |
| AI & voice | Remote MCP + Grok light control demonstrated. Other assistant clients need validation. DemonstratedValidation pending | Assist, optional LLMs and MCP support already exist. |
| Network insight | Thread grouping built. Full visual Analyzer and guided remediation planned. DemonstratedPlanned | Interactive Matter map, device roles, connection details and signal information. |
| Learning | User-approved preference learning and fewer repeated corrections are planned. Planned | Automations and AI can be customized; tailored learning requires an implementation. |
| Multiple homes | Home selection built. Per-home memory and selective preference transfer planned. DemonstratedPlanned | Companion apps support multiple servers. Shared policy can require additional design. |
| Ownership & cost | Planned managed subscription: $29/month or $290/year per home, plus hardware. Planned | Free open-source core. Hardware, optional cloud/AI and any paid support are additional. |

Home Assistant already has
An interactive Matter map with Thread roles, connection information and signal details. This is an existing capability—not a Cauchy-exclusive idea.
Cauchy’s proposed step forward
Explain a supported problem, propose a repair, obtain approval and verify the result. Link the evidence to the room and the installer’s workflow.
Illustrative topology, not measured data. Visibility and commissioning depend on device and border-router support. Thread admission and Matter pairing are distinct.
05 / What lives in the home
Local control. A separate hub in every home.

Mac mini + Cauchy agent
The Matter controller and credentials live here. A separate supported Thread border router provides access to Thread devices.
Apple product photo. The Mac mini is not inherently a Thread border router.
Cauchy can join alongside Apple Home using Matter multi-admin. Cloud assistants receive conversation and relevant tool context; optional local AI is future vision.
06 / More than one home
One account. Clearly separate homes.

HomeView concepts; integration unvalidated. Home Assistant already supports multiple servers in its companion apps.
Planned: carry a preference, preserve the boundary.
Planned“I like warm evening light” may travel. Room names, device access and household permissions stay specific to each home.

08 / Price and ongoing responsibility
Charge for less work. Prove that value.
USD. Cauchy billing and enrollment are not open. Compare total cost: hardware + setup + services + maintenance time.
Cauchy · Planned commercial pricing
$29 per home / month
$290 per home / year
Apps included as launched. No Cauchy token or per-command billing. Bring your own assistant.
Home Assistant
Free core
Hardware and optional cloud or AI services are additional. Professional setup and support may also be purchased separately.

Installer-led, with guided self-install
Cauchy proposes a 25% recurring share for installers who bring and support homes. Hardware, installation and optional third-party AI subscriptions remain separate.
09 / Evidence and roadmap
A working foundation. A larger vision to prove.
Demonstrated
- Web sign-in, home selection and remote control.
- Mac connect installer and updating home agent.
- Guided Matter pairing alongside Apple Home.
- Remote MCP and Grok control of real lights.
Validation + planned
- Shades and bounded temperature: hardware validation pending.
- Preference learning and approved course corrections.
- Full Thread Analyzer and supported commissioning.
- Native apps and further validated assistant clients.

10 / Where Cauchy could earn the win
The moat has to be earned in lived experience.
Choose Home Assistant when…
You value broad device support, deep customization and ownership of an extensible platform. You or a specialist can maintain the system.
Cauchy aims to win when…
You accept a smaller validated catalog and a recurring fee in exchange for a coherent service that learns your preferences and needs less upkeep.
Build defensibility through
Device and firmware validation • useful failure-recovery knowledge • trusted installer support • measurable learning quality
Pilot goals · Not results
